Becoming Nimble with Portuguese IIBA Resources

My journey in business analysis began many years ago. In 2008, I became the first certified business analyst by IIBA in Latin America. The achievement was far from easy, as I had to travel to Canada to take the ECBA exam, which was only available in English at the time. This journey was filled with challenges, but it laid a solid foundation for a prosperous career in the field.
Between 2012 and 2022, I had the honour of leading the Brazilian chapter of IIBA (IIBA-BR), bringing together chapters from Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, and other groups from Brasília, Curitiba, and Belo Horizonte, to centralize all business analysis content in Portuguese on a single online portal.
Since the end of 2022, the IIBA-BR chapter has been under the presidency of Ricardo Stucchi, but I remain actively engaged as a dedicated volunteer in our community.
Translating IIBA Content into Portuguese
Over the years, the Brazilian business analysis community has achieved significant milestones in translating essential IIBA resources. In 2011, A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK® Guide), Version 2 was published in Portuguese, followed by Version 3.0 in 2022. And this month, we have exciting news for our community.
Perhaps the most thrilling is that IIBA’s Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) exam is available in Portuguese.
For many, language has represented a barrier to certification—but that barrier no longer exists. This internationally recognized certification allows Portuguese-speaking professionals to obtain a quality seal in business analysis, validating their essential skills and knowledge in the field.
Additionally, IIBA has also just launched The Business Analysis Standard in Portuguese. This comprehensive guide covers the core concepts, mindset, and business analysis tasks organized into knowledge areas, providing a standardized vocabulary for practitioners.
By adopting The Standard, professionals and organizations gain access to globally recognized guidelines and techniques to enhance their skills and prepare for the challenges of digital transformation and rapidly evolving business environments.
These IIBA resources are essential for Portuguese-speaking professionals to prepare themselves to become nimble. In fact, the timing aligns perfectly with the theme of this month’s release.
The article "Being Nimble: The Scalable Capability for Organizations to Sense and Respond to Change" offers valuable insight into how business analysis professionals can develop skills to sense and respond rapidly and precisely in a constantly transforming corporate environment. Opportunities for Your Journey
Today, the Portuguese-speaking business analysis community has a plethora of opportunities to boost their careers and enhance their expertise:- Papo de Negócios: Every Wednesday, we host live “business chat” sessions on YouTube to share knowledge and experiences with the community. It's a fantastic opportunity to stay updated on the latest trends in business analysis and exchange ideas with fellow professionals.
- Online BABOK Study Groups (GEBOL): GEBOLs bring together students aiming to prepare for IIBA certifications, offering mutual support and a collaborative learning environment.
- BA-Brazil 2023: The largest business analysis conference in Latin America will take place in São Paulo from September 13 to 15. The event offers a unique opportunity to stay up to date on best practices, trends, and innovations in business analysis, as well as network with experts and peers in the field.

Looking back, I am immensely grateful to have witnessed how our community has grown and strengthened over the years. I take pride in being part of this journey, and I am confident that the future of business analysis in the Portuguese-speaking world holds tremendous promise.With the support of IIBA, which makes business analysis accessible, up-to-date, and impactful for professionals in Brazil and other Portuguese-speaking countries, we are ready to become nimble and tackle any challenges the future holds.
