IIBA Extenuating Circumstance Policy
An extenuating circumstance is an event or hardship that would lead you to request one of the following:
- An extension to your Application period up to 30 days after it has expired.
- A rescheduling/cancelling of your exam within the 48 hours of your exam day, at no charge (only if the request is received by IIBA no later than 30 days after the scheduled exam day).
- An extension to your Recertification cycle up to 30 days after it has changed to uncertified.
Extenuating circumstances include, but are not limited to the following:
- A medical emergency
- Illness
- Going into labour
- Death in the immediate family
- Military personnel being called to active duty
Every case is assessed on an individual basis and must be approved by IIBA before the request is granted. If you have an extenuating circumstance, you are required to provide IIBA with proper documentation to support your request. This documentation must include a reason and a specific recommendation for your request.
For privacy reasons, please do not email IIBA your note. Instead, send the required documentation via Google Drive, iCloud or a DropBox and email a link with your request to certification@iiba.org. If your request involves rescheduling or cancelling an exam, please include the existing exam date and time.
Requirements for Documentation
For appropriate supporting documentation, refer to the following table:

| Jury duty, military leave | Note from governing body requesting leave from individual |
