International Women’s Day is an important day for the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA). The contributions of women have helped shape the business sector, as well as the business analysis industry, and the IIBA recognizes that. “Women are making inroads in business, both in America and around the world,” stated the blog article Ladies who Lead – 35+ Amazing Women in Business Statistics. “Slowly but surely, more women are starting businesses, leading them, and funding them. Women in business statistics show a lot of progress. Women in business have had a major impact on the world economy.”

Women in Business Analysis: Stats You Need to Know
According to the IIBA’s Global State of Business Analysis Report, about half of all business analysis professionals are female. The annual survey-based report also indicated that female business analysts earn higher salaries than their male colleagues. For example, the global average salary in 2018 for women in business analysis was 3% higher than the average salary for men. In 2019, it was 2% higher. This proves that the business analysis field is welcoming to female practitioners and offers room for professional growth and promotion.

Is There Gender Bias in Business Analysis?
Despite the positive environment the business analysis field creates for women, there is still gender bias in the industry, as there is in all industries. The majority of the gender bias is most likely unconscious. For example,“...research by McKinsey and Company confirmed that invisible barriers are holding women back, rather than overt sexism alone,” stated a Research Note by the Bureau for Employers’ Activities. By acknowledging International Women’s Day and the contributions of women in business analysis, the business analysis community can help #BreaktheBias in the BA industry.

This year the IIBA will celebrate International Women’s Day with a webinar that will be presented on March 8th, 2022 at 12pm EST. The IIBA Women in Business Analysis webinar panelists will share their experiences, challenges, and advice for breaking gender bias in the workplace. The official hashtag for the webinar is #BreaktheBias. The webinar will celebrate and value difference for a world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
The IIBA Women in Business Analysis webinar will be moderated by Dulce Oliveira from McGill University, and President of IIBA Montreal Chapter. Panelists will include Trice Johnson, Vice President of Strategy & Innovation at Salesforce; Laurence Biron, Business Analyst at Levio; and Emily Midgley, CBAP, Systems Analyst Lead in Small Business Insurance IT at Progressive Corporation, and President of IIBA Cleveland Chapter.
