The Business Analysis Impact hybrid conference took place on June 19, 21, and 22 in three Indian cities: Pune, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Supported by local chapters who worked hard to make it a success, the event provided professionals the chance to advance their careers through networking, learning, and professional development.

The conference featured a mix of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and roundtables, all aimed at equipping business analysis professionals with the knowledge and skills to excel in their roles. Read on for a few takeaways from this year’s event.

Certification vs. Real-Life Experience

Abhishek Srivastava discussed the balance between certification and real-life experience in business analysis. He highlighted that certifications provide a solid foundation of knowledge, in addition to the consistent practice that leads to true mastery.

Evolving the Business Analysis Role

Pravin Kulkarni addressed the changing business paradigm and the evolving role of business analysis. He underscored the importance of keeping customer delight at the forefront of all business activities.

Kulkarni advised business analysis professionals to be active listeners and practise empathy in their interactions. This customer-centric approach ensures they can effectively understand and address the needs of clients.

The Engagement Pyramid

Swaminathan Balakrishnan introduced the concept of the engagement pyramid, which centres around community involvement. This model encourages business analysis professionals to engage with their communities, fostering a collaborative environment that can lead to better outcomes.

Balakrishnan’s discussion highlighted the value of community as a resource for professional development and problem-solving.

Business Analysis Everywhere

This panel discussion explored the theme of Analysis Everywhere, emphasizing the application of business analysis across the entire change lifecycle.

The panel featured industry leaders Chinmay Athaley, Mādhav Dābké, Amol Deshpande, and Abhijit Majumdar, who shared their experiences and insights. They discussed how business analysis practices can be integrated into various phases of change, from planning to implementation, to ensure successful outcomes.

AI-Powered Business Analysis Professional

The second panel focused on the theme "I'm an AI-Powered Business Analyst," examining the intersection of artificial intelligence and business analysis. Session takeaways included:

  • The importance of understanding the problem statement from a holistic perspective
  • The role of the business analysis professional as an orchestrator in using AI technologies
  • The use of AI for localized video analysis
  • Developing the art of asking the right questions to solve problems
  • The necessity of making oneself visible in the workplace
  • The need for continuous upskilling and embracing new technologies
  • Walking through processes and understanding them from a practical, day-in-the-life perspective

Academic Needs Roundtable

A dedicated roundtable discussed the academic needs of the business analysis profession. The session included Nirmala Joshi, Blake Heggestad, Lait Kathpalia, and Pradeep Pendse. It focused on aligning academic programs with the evolving demands of the industry.

This discussion underscored the importance of connecting academic training and practical application, ensuring that future practitioners are well-prepared to meet industry challenges.

Navigating a Brave New Era

One of five global events hosted by IIBA this year, the Business Analysis Impact conference provided a comprehensive overview of the profession's current state and future direction. From the importance of certifications to the evolving role of business analysts in a customer-centric and AI-driven world, it showed how the profession is always changing.

Continuous learning, practical application, and community engagement emerged as key themes, guiding business analysis professionals toward sustained professional growth and success.
